Produktbeschreibung
This second volume of the Exodus commentary analyzes Exodus 16-40 section by section from literary, historical, and theological perspectives, each beginning with a synchronic approach. In Exodus 15-18, the relationship between Israel and God is portrayed as one marked by conflict and mutual testing. Exodus 19-31 and 35-40 recount the divine gift of the Torah, the covenant by which the people accept it, and the construction of the Sinai sanctuary. The crisis of the "Golden Calf" (Exodus 32-34) leads to a modified Law and a renewed relationship with God - one founded on mercy.
Diachronic analyses accompany the synchronic ones. As in the first volume, they are based on four compositional layers. The oldest layer focuses on the constitution of Israel as a community, with the Decalogue and the Covenant Code serving as foundational texts. The Deuteronomistic layer adapts this narrative to its own laws, whereas the Priestly composition envisions a sanctuary constructed by the people. Ultimately, Israel emerges as a complex community resting on the pillars of law and sanctuary.
Syntheses reflect the relationship between the synchronic and diachronic approaches.
